A bold statement to make? Read on…
Making friends as an adult is challenging. And who would think a networking app could change all this? This is my Bumble success story…When I returned to my hometown after 6 years away, I knew virtually no one outside of family. I didn’t keep in contact with the few friends I had in high school and when I tried to reconnect, it was clear that we were on different paths in life.
So what did I do? I turned to Bumble to find dates to fill the void. I had only been home from Europe for a couple weeks when I hit it off with one guy in particular. We began exclusively dating and instead of meeting new friends of my own, I spent all my time with him and his friends. Fatal mistake. When he ended things abruptly, it felt earth shattering and I was again left with no one.
This is where Bumble BFF saved the day.I re-downloaded the app out of boredom and was excited to see the newly launched feature – Bumble BFF. At first it felt superficial to me, judging girlfriends based on photos. But if I saw “running” “travel” “wine” or “exploring Columbus” in their profile, I swiped right. One girl had “looking for a roommate” in her profile. When we decided to meet up, I gave her the disclaimer: “If we don’t vibe in real life, no worries, we don’t have to be roomies, or even friends for that matter.” Immediately following our first date, she texted me “I’m obsessed with you! Be my roommate?” The stars had aligned.Within the first week of moving downtown, I matched with three girls on a random Friday afternoon. A quick “Happy hour?” was all it took and the four of us have been inseparable ever since. (Catch them in my Snapchat/Instagram more often than not)Fast forward to last month when the “Columbus Queen Bee” Kelly messaged me inviting me to a brunch. Thinking it would be a casual affair of a few other BFF’s, I was blown away when it was the #ColumbusHive launch event of 30 other women, and a venue all decked out in Bumble swag. Thus begins my story as a Columbus Local Bee. I joined the team at such an exciting time. Bumble Bizz launched last week, transforming the way brands and users network, develop new career opportunities, and seek out mentoring opportunities. This isn’t a job searching app, it’s about building relationships. Every swipe is an opportunity to connect, expand your network and make empowered career moves.
